Privacy Policy

Your voice, your data

Speakmac is built for privacy-conscious builders. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you control when you use the app or browse the site.

What data we collect

Speakmac records audio locally on your device when you activate recording. The audio is kept in a temporary file so the app can produce the transcript you requested.

Crash diagnostics and basic usage analytics are opt-in. When enabled, they capture anonymized technical details so we can fix bugs faster.

How we use your data

Transcription happens on your Mac by default. If you turn on a cloud provider, audio is encrypted in transit to that provider solely for producing the transcript.

We never sell or share transcripts, recordings, or analytics events with advertisers. Data is only used to deliver the transcription you asked for and to maintain the product.

Retention and deletion

Temporary recordings created during transcription are deleted automatically after the transcript is pasted unless you enable the optional recovery feature.

You can delete past transcripts and snippets at any time from the app. Removing them clears the associated audio files from local storage.

Third-party services

If you enable cloud transcription, Speakmac connects to providers like Deepgram or OpenAI using API keys you supply. Those services process audio to return text and follow their own privacy terms.

We use Vercel Analytics and PostHog to understand traffic patterns on speakmac.app. These tools rely on cookies and device data to provide aggregate usage metrics.

Your choices

All analytics are optional. You can disable them from the landing page banner or in the app settings at any time.

If you have questions about how Speakmac handles data, email [email protected] and we will respond within five business days.
