Speakmac records audio locally on your device when you activate recording. Depending on your History and Privacy Mode settings, the recording and transcript may remain in local History or be discarded after use.

Speakmac sends limited anonymous install and update telemetry for release health. Product usage analytics are optional and opt-in. In Speakmac 5.6.5 and later, technical crash diagnostics are enabled by default independently of usage analytics and can be turned off with a separate setting. Crash reports help us diagnose failures without collecting dictated text.

Speakmac also sends anonymous onboarding step counts, independently of the usage analytics setting, so we can see where setup gets stuck. The first time a Mac reaches each setup milestone (onboarding started, language chosen, speech model ready, microphone access granted, Accessibility access granted, practice dictation completed, onboarding finished, and first dictation into another app), the app sends only the milestone name, app version, and build number. Each milestone is sent at most once. The request contains no install ID, device identifier, account, or dictated text. Our server does not store your IP address or any per-install record; it only adds one to a daily count per milestone, app version, and country.

The Windows beta sends three anonymous milestones once per install: first launch, onboarding finished, and first completed dictation. Each request contains only the milestone name, a random install ID created by the app, the app version, the Windows version, and the processor architecture. It never includes dictated text or audio, and private dictations are not counted. We relay these milestones to Google Analytics without your IP address. Set the SPEAKMAC_DISABLE_TELEMETRY environment variable to 1 to turn them off.

On the website, essential first-party records cover downloads, checkout handoffs, completed payments, refunds, and basic fraud or reliability signals. These records operate independently of third-party analytics.

To connect those critical steps, we retain limited first-touch attribution for up to 90 days: campaign and click identifiers, acquisition cohort, referrer host, and landing path. This first-party record does not include dictated text or payment-card details.

For the email-download experiment, a random first-party cookie keeps the same browser in the same group for up to 90 days. It contains no email address, recording, or transcript. When you enter your email to download, we send the requested download link and may send a related Speakmac follow-up. No email-confirmation step is required for the download. You can unsubscribe from follow-ups at any time.

Transcription happens entirely on your Mac. Audio is processed locally and never uploaded to Speakmac servers or any third-party transcription provider.

If you turn on Clean Up Dictation, Speakmac applies a local finishing pass after transcription to improve punctuation, casing, filler words, and paragraphing before paste. It does not upload the transcript for cleanup.

We never sell transcripts or recordings. Website advertising measurement uses campaign identifiers and does not include dictated text or payment-card details.

Clean Up Dictation is optional and off by default. It is a finishing pass after local speech-to-text, not a different transcription model.

After you download the cleanup model, supported English transcripts are processed locally on your Mac. Unsupported non-English cleanup returns the raw transcript instead of guessing.

The finishing pass is designed to preserve meaning while removing filler and improving punctuation and paragraphing.

When History saving is on, Speakmac keeps transcripts and associated audio locally so you can review or recover them. Privacy Mode intentionally saves neither after use.

You can delete past transcripts and snippets at any time from the app. Removing them clears the associated audio files from local storage.

Speakmac does not send recordings to external transcription APIs. The public Clean Up Dictation path also keeps transcript cleanup on your Mac.

Lemon Squeezy and Dodo Payments sell Speakmac as merchants of record and process purchases; older India orders were processed by Razorpay. We retain provider order, payment, amount, status, and refund records needed for fulfillment, accounting, support, and reliable reporting.

We use Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement, and Vercel Analytics to understand traffic patterns and campaign performance on speakmac.app. Website measurement is enabled when you browse the public site.

You can control crash diagnostics separately from optional product usage analytics in the app settings at any time. Turning off usage analytics does not turn off crash diagnostics; each has its own setting.

On the website, analytics and advertising measurement are enabled by default. Browser privacy controls and content blockers may limit third-party measurement. Essential first-party attribution, download, checkout, payment, refund, and operational records remain active independently.
